Plastocyanin is a nuclear encoded polypeptide in all eukaryotic photosynthetic organisms where it has been studied. It is synthesized as a pre-protein of approximate molecular weight 17,000, imported post-translationally into chloroplasts, and processed to its mature form of approximate molecular weight 10,500 within the plastid.
